Drum made of mahagony wood and goat skin with a close-to-perfect carving of dragon. Origin: Indonesia.
🌿 Basic Care
After playing, gently wipe the drum with a soft dry cloth to remove sweat and dust. Keep it away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and sudden temperature changes — dry air can tighten and crack the skin, while moisture may loosen it and affect the sound.
💧 Skin and Wood Conditioning
Occasionally, refresh the skin with a very thin layer of natural oil or balm containing lanolin or beeswax. The wood, especially carved areas, can be lightly treated with natural furniture oil or wax to enhance the grain and protect the surface. Always apply sparingly and let it absorb completely.
🪘 Tuning
If the skin loosens over time, the drum can be retightened using the rope system. This requires skill — if possible, entrust it to an experienced player or maker. Do not use water or heat for quick tightening, as this can damage the drum.
🌬️ Storage
Store your djembe in a dry, shaded area, preferably in a fabric bag that protects it from dust and humidity. Avoid freezing temperatures and direct sunlight — wood and skin are living materials that respond to their environment.
🪶 A djembe is the voice of wood and skin, born from human hands. In its rhythm lies both calm and power — and if you care for it with respect, it will answer with a tone that never fades.
